I've become obsessed with smoothies. I'm having them for breakfast every day; if it hadn't required washing the blender again, I probably would have had one for dinner yesterday. Here are what seem to be the perfect proportions: 1/4 cup canned fruit in syrup, 1/4 cup fruit nectar (usually sold in boxes among the non-American products part of the juice aisle), 1/4 cup frozen fruit, 1/2 cup plain yogurt.
That combo has worked with all different kinds of fruit and juice so far. Mostly I'm using canned pineapple and peach nectar, then adding frozen raspberries or strawberries. Today I used frozen sweet cherries. I bought a can of jamaica juice that I'm going to try tomorrow, although it's an agua fresca instead of nectar, so it may require extra yogurt to keep the right thickness.
I've been having one of these each morning with one serving of whole wheat carbs: toast, Afghan bread, or half a bagel. Now I'm wondering whether I could boost the breakfast even more by adding a scoop of protein powder to the smoothie. I don't know much about protein powder, though -- any suggestions?
